World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an emergency following the emergence of mpox virus cases in Africa. Experts warn that the virus, which can spread from rodents such as rats and squirrels or from infected individuals, poses a greater threat to those under 50 years old. The Turkish Ministry of Health has issued a statement regarding mpox.

The ministry confirmed that no mpox cases have been detected in Türkiye and stated that current information about the international emergency will be shared with the public.

The statement from the ministry reads:

No cases of mpox have been reported in Türkiye in 2024. There is currently no need for any restrictions or additional measures in our country. Our ministry is conducting the necessary studies, and the process is being closely monitored with our scientific committee and health infrastructure.
