At the Army War College graduation ceremony of the National Defense University, a group of newly commissioned lieutenants, including the top graduate, drew their swords and chanted, “We are Mustafa Kemal’s soldiers,” causing concern in various circles within Türkiye.
‘Army will not be subject to politics’
Erdogan emphasized that the Turkish Armed Forces will not be subjected to political exploitation.
He remarked, “We take pride in our heroic army and will not allow it to be undermined. During the recent graduation ceremony, some individuals drew swords inappropriately. We are investigating who is behind this act.”

He assured that necessary measures will be taken, stating, “We will not permit the weakening of our military.”
Erdogan also noted that the investigation will address the involvement of those responsible, asserting, “Whether it is 30 or 300 people, their presence in our army is unacceptable.”
