President Erdogan declares Türkiye’s trade cessation with Israel, emphasizing the push for Gaza ceasefire

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressing the cessation of trade with Israel, asserted that the aim is to compel the Netanyahu government, backed unconditionally by Western military and diplomatic support, to halt hostilities.

“Our sole purpose is to force the (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu government, which has sprung out of control due to the West’s unconditional support, to a cease-fire,” Erdogan said at the Dolmabahce hosting the Board of Directors of the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD).

President Erdogan underscored the pivotal role of MUSIAD members in Türkiye’s achievements, spanning from economic growth to foreign trade and the advancement of rights and freedoms.

In addressing Türkiye’s humanitarian aid to Gaza, President Erdogan commended MUSIAD’s contribution and announced measures aimed at pressuring Israel to increase aid and secure a ceasefire.

“Türkiye ranks first in the world with the total of nearly 50,000 tons of humanitarian aid it has sent to Gaza. We have taken some measures commercially to force Israel to increase the amount of humanitarian aid it allows and to the ceasefire. Initially, we imposed export restrictions on 54 product groups. As of yesterday, we have also stopped exports and imports with Israel for all products.”

Once again criticizing Western nations for supporting Netanyahu’s government, Erdogan said he expected that these countries would “attack” Türkiye over its decision.

“We are well aware of how the West will attack us due to our trade restrictions against Israel,” he said, asserting that Türkiye would “set an example” for other countries in the region.

Erdogan clarified that Türkiye seeks peaceful coexistence with all nations in the region and aims to prevent conflict and suffering.

“When a cease-fire is reached and sufficient aid is allowed into Gaza, our goal will be fulfilled. Türkiye’s move will set an example for other countries,” he said.

Expressing determination to stand by the oppressed, President Erdoğan affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to advocating for the rights of the vulnerable, particularly in Gaza.

“We are aware that we are doing the right thing now. If we do not stand by these people today, who will stand by us when similar things happen to us tomorrow? “

He stressed that Türkiye’s actions aim to compel Israel to halt hostilities and pave the way for humanitarian relief.
