We are not ready for war: Former UK Defense Minister
Former UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace and former Deputy Defense Minister James Heappey stated that the British military is not ready for war
Europe is becoming increasingly concerned about the potential for a major conflict following the Russia-Ukraine War. However, British officials have stated that their country is not ready for scenarios involving war.
James Heappey, former deputy defense minister of the U.K., revealed that a drill aimed at preparing for war scenarios, which should involve all institutions, only had Defense Ministry officials participating.
In his article for the Daily Telegraph, Heappey noted that the U.K. lags behind most allies in terms of war preparations.
Heappey mentioned that the Swedish government informs its citizens about preparations for war, including stockpiling goods and provisions, suggesting that the U.K. should follow Sweden’s example. He expressed concern about the U.K.’s situation.
Former U.K. Defense Minister Ben Wallace also stated that many in the government “hoped everything would fix itself.”
U.K. Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden claimed that the comments made were incorrect.
