‘Without Türkiye’s guarantorship and peace operation, we could witness tragedies akin to those in Gaza unfold in the TRNC,’ Vice President Yilmaz said in a meeting with Turkish Cypriot president

The Prime Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) organized the First Cyprus Cities and Cultures Meeting at a hotel in Istanbul.

Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, speaking at the event, offered condolences to the family of Medical Lieutenant Hulusi Elci, who was martyred in the Claw-Lock Operation region, and stated that the determined fight against terrorism would continue.

Yilmaz highlighted the significant role of Türkiye’s guarantorship and peace operations in preventing potential unrest in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) similar to what has been witnessed in Gaza.

Addressing attendees during the Cyprus Cities and Cultures Meeting, Yilmaz expressed appreciation for those involved in the military operation in Cyprus in 1974, including “both the fighters and armed forces,” in upholding peace. He emphasized the crucial recognition of the region’s longstanding history and reality.

Furthermore, he stressed the necessity for global acknowledgment of the inherent rights of Turkish Cypriots to sovereign equality and equal international status. Yilmaz reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot community, stating, “As the Republic of Türkiye, we stand in solidarity with the Turkish Cypriots in this regard.”

Referring to the distressing scenes in Gaza, Yilmaz remarked, “When we see these heart-wrenching scenes, I believe we all appreciate once again how meaningful the peace operation was. Without Türkiye’s guarantorship and peace operation, we could witness tragedies akin to those in Gaza unfold in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Thankfully, Türkiye did not allow this. In this regard, we express our gratitude to all those involved, both the fighters and the armed forces.”
