Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus Strait was suspended in both directions on Wednesday due to dense fog, according to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety. The suspension aims to ensure the safety of vessels navigating the strait, one of the world’s busiest maritime passages.

Officials have not provided an estimated time for when normal traffic will resume, but they are monitoring weather conditions closely.

Key maritime route impacted by weather conditions

The Bosphorus Strait, also known as the Istanbul Strait, is a vital shipping route connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and beyond. Dense fog often leads to temporary suspensions of maritime traffic to prevent accidents and ensure safe navigation.
