US targets Turkish, Chinese, UAE companies for helping Russia
Biden administration imposes trade restrictions on 93 entities across several countries, including Türkiye, for supporting Russia’s actions in Ukraine conflict
On Friday, the Biden administration announced new trade restrictions targeting 93 entities across Russia, China, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, India, and South Korea for their support of Russia’s actions in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
These restrictions essentially prohibit shipments from the U.S. to the identified entities, which include 63 from Russia, 16 from Türkiye, eight from China, and four from the UAE. This action brings the total number of entities listed due to their involvement in the conflict to 900.
The move is part of a broader set of sanctions by the U.S., its partners, and allies in response to Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine, which commenced on Feb. 24, 2022. Additionally, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on more than 500 targets related to the conflict and the tragic death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
In a separate development this week, the European Union adopted its 13th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting nearly 200 entities and individuals accused of aiding Moscow in procuring weapons or being involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children.
Among the 93 entities singled out on Friday, some were identified for diverting controlled microelectronics to Russia’s military and intelligence agencies, as stated by the Commerce Department. Others were sanctioned for acquiring American equipment to assist Russia in restocking its munitions and other military supplies.
