An unexploded ordnance, believed to be maritime ammunition, was discovered on the coastline of Buyuktashane neighborhood in Rize‘s Cayeli district.

Discovery during coastal walk

Residents walking along the beach spotted an unidentified object near the shore and promptly informed emergency services.

Police teams arrived at the scene, securing the area and ensuring public safety. Bomb disposal experts and crime scene investigators examined the ordnance and determined it would be eliminated after further analysis.

Storm-driven discovery

The ordnance is suspected to have been brought ashore by strong waves caused by recent storms affecting the region. Citizens first noticed the object wedged among rocks, raising concerns about its origin and potential danger.

A resident expressed his apprehension: “This is the first time I have seen something like this in our area. It looks like maritime ammunition, likely brought here by waves during the storm. We are waiting to see what the authorities find out.”

Safety measures in place

Police have cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of residents and bystanders. Specialists are conducting detailed investigations to identify the exact type of ordnance and its origin.
