In response to the Houthi threat to maritime trade, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron re-affirms the nation’s readiness for further military action to preserve global supply chains and maintain freedom of navigation in the Red Sea

The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron, in a statement issued early Sunday, announced the nation’s readiness to conduct additional military operations against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The warning follows recent assaults by the Houthis on commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea.

Penning an opinion piece for The Telegraph, Cameron stressed that if the Houthis are allowed to “deny passage to ships, vital supply chains are threatened and prices will go up in Britain and across the globe.”

He cautioned that allowing the Houthis to hinder shipping could lead to escalated commodity prices in the U.K. and internationally.

Cameron also reflected on the effectiveness of recent joint strikes by the United States and U.K. forces, noting they had successfully diminished the capabilities of the Houthi rebels, which he described as being bolstered by Iranian support.

He reinforced the U.K.’s commitment to ensuring maritime freedom and asserted its willingness to take action when necessary to uphold this principle.
