Türkiye’s unemployment rate drops to 9.1% in January

Türkiye’s unemployment rate in January 2024 sees a slight decrease from December’s 9.7% to 9.1%, with 3.2 million people unemployed

Türkiye’s unemployment rate stood at 9.1% in January, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase from December 2023, as reported by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Monday.

However, this rate was lower than the 9.7% recorded in January 2023, according to TurkStat’s data.

The total number of unemployed individuals reached 3.2 million, showing an increase of 85,000 people compared to the previous month.

For January, the unemployment rate was 7.7% for men and 11.7% for women.

TurkStat highlighted that the number of employed individuals rose by 160,000 to reach 32.22 million in January 2024 compared to the previous month.

During this period, the employment rate was calculated at 49%, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase in January.
