Türkiye’s tea exports double, earnings reach $6M in 2024
Türkiye’s tea industry achieves remarkable milestone, with export earnings soaring to over $6 million in early 2024, driven by increased global demand and distribution to 85 countries
Türkiye’s tea industry has seen a remarkable upsurge in its export performance, with figures reaching over $6 million in the first two months of the year.
This marks a substantial increase from the previous year, indicating the growing global recognition and demand for Turkish tea.
Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association Saban Turgut announced the notable achievement.
“In January and February of this year, we exported 1,347 tons of tea, generating an income of $6.06 million. This is a significant increase from last year when 661 tons of tea exports brought in $3,274,872,” said Turgut.
This growth in exports represents an impressive 104% increase in quantity and 85% in value compared to the previous year’s figures.
Further emphasizing the increasing global reach of Turkish tea, Turgut stated, “Turkish tea was sold to 85 countries, autonomous and free zones.” He highlighted the top importers, saying, “In this period, tea worth $2.83 million was sold to Belgium, $637,645 to the U.S., and $501,389 to the U.K..”
Turgut also mentioned the broad range of export destinations, including Mauritania, Japan, Liberia, Croatia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Syria, Chile, Egypt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Burundi, Gambia, Venezuela, Cuba, Djibouti, Brazil, Dubai, Angola, and Cambodia.
Reflecting on this expansion, he stated, “With the increasing international recognition of Turkish tea, we anticipate this will have an even more positive impact on our exports in future periods.”
As the world’s largest per capita consumer of tea, averaging 1,300 cups per person annually, Türkiye’s success in tea exports is particularly notable. This consumption highlights not only a domestic love for tea but also the potential of the Turkish tea industry to meet the rising global demand for tea products.
The current export growth signals a significant opportunity for businesses to tap into this market trend, promising further expansion and international acclaim for Turkish tea.
