‘We will deliver 20 KAAN aircraft in the year 2028, and will deliver many more between 2030 and 2033, says Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) General Manager Temel Kotil

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) General Manager Temel Kotil shared important developments regarding the national combat aircraft KAAN on Monday, saying that the aerospace company aims to deliver 20 KAANs by 2028.

In his message, Kotil disclosed short-term goals for the future, saying: “We will deliver 20 KAAN aircraft in the year 2028. We’ll deliver many more between 2030 and 2033, and the Turkish fleet will comprise hundreds of KAAN aircraft.”

Emphasizing the need for the national combat aircraft KAAN to be 100% indigenous for the security of our country, Kotil said, “We are also manufacturing the engine; we have to. Hopefully, by 2028-2029, we will fly KAAN with our engine. In such a crucial technology, we cannot be dependent on any other country.”

Kotil also provided information about KAAN’s technical specifications, stating: “This aircraft is better than the F-35. The F-35 carries 6 tons; this one carries 10 tons of ammunition. It has 2 engines compared to the F-35’s single engine. Having 2 engines means more energy and radars illuminating a greater distance.”

Kotil’s statements about KAAN highlight Türkiye’s significant steps in its national defense industry and future goals.

KAAN will have the capability to collaborate with platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles, aerial notification and control, and other planned procurement elements. KAAN, equipped with advanced weaponry and internal weapon bays, is capable of engaging in air-to-air combat and executing precise supersonic strikes. It enhances combat capabilities by integrating artificial intelligence and neural network support.
The KAAN program brings the world’s top test centers to the country, including the Lightning Test Facility, the Radar Cross-Sectional Area Test Facility, and the Wind Tunnel Facility. By doing so, a path will be prepared for enhancing the processing capabilities of test data.
