Türkiye’s Otokar debuts COBRA II Pickup in Romania
Otokar, one of the leading armored vehicle manufacturers of the Turkish defense industry, showcased the pickup version of its COBRA II vehicle abroad for the first time at the Black Sea Defense and Aerospace Exhibition (BSDA) in Romania.
As part of the Koc Group, Otokar continues to promote its land systems products and capabilities on a global scale. The company participated in the 9th edition of BSDA held in Bucharest, Romania.
As a supplier to NATO and the United Nations, Otokar attended the event with its renowned armored vehicles, ARMA 8X8 and COBRA II, displaying the latest technologies in the land, sea, air defense, border security, space and cyber security sectors.
At the fair, which saw official delegations from across Europe, Otokar presented the pickup version of the COBRA II for the first time internationally.
Prepared for various missions
The COBRA II pickup, known for its modular structure and superior mobility, is actively used by over 20 users in over 15 countries in United Nations and NATO missions.
The pickup version of the COBRA II, noted for its high protection, carrying capacity and spacious interior, drew attention at the exhibition with its design, extensive weapon integration and mission equipment options.
While maintaining the superior performance characteristics of the existing COBRA II, the COBRA II Pickup offers an increased load capacity, providing a broader range of uses for various missions.
The vehicle’s modular design allows it to be adapted for different tasks, making it effective for logistics support, ammunition transport, field maintenance and recovery operations.
The expansive cargo area facilitates the transport of heavy loads, large equipment and weapon systems, ensuring secure transportation of various materials and equipment to meet operational needs.
The armor system used in the COBRA II Pickup protects crew and cargo from all types of threats.
Otokar seeks role in Romania
Participating in the “4X4 Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicles Tender” opened by Romania’s Ministry of National Defense company C.N. Romtehnica S.A., Otokar aims to serve the Romanian Armed Forces.
Otokar has prepared a comprehensive potential business plan with its local partner to meet the stringent requirements of the 4X4 vehicle program. The proposal covers the project’s technical, commercial, and financial aspects, as well as value creation and capability development in the country.
If the tender is won, Otokar plans to use the facility in Romania as a strategic hub for its European operations, conducting local production and research and development activities at the site.
By collaborating with local suppliers and subsystem manufacturers, Otokar aims to increase local added value and enhance Romania’s defense capabilities.
