Türkiye’s motion to deploy soldiers in Somalia submitted to Parliament
A presidential motion for deploying Turkish army personnel to Somalia for two years has been submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly under the defense cooperation agreement between Türkiye and Somalia.
The motion, signed by President Erdogan, details Türkiye’s ongoing efforts in Somalia, including training, assistance and advisory activities to ensure security and stability.
The motion highlights Türkiye’s decade-long support in restructuring Somali defense and security forces and enhancing their capacity to combat terrorism in partnership with the international community.
The deployment will involve Turkish personnel operating in regions jointly determined by Türkiye and Somalia, including Somalia’s maritime jurisdiction areas, as part of Türkiye’s energy pursuits and international collaborations.
