Türkiye’s MIT and Istanbul police nab PKK intelligence operatives in Istanbul
The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has captured Sadik Topaloglu, known by the code name Halil, and Mehmet Savas, operatives within the so-called intelligence structure of the PKK terrorist organization, in Istanbul.
The joint operation, conducted by MIT and the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate, successfully apprehended Topaloglu and Savas, who were operating within the PKK’s intelligence network in the city.
After identifying Topaloglu as a member of the PKK’s intelligence structure, MIT placed him under close surveillance. It was discovered that Topaloglu had illegally traveled to Iraq/Kandil to receive intelligence training and had meetings with senior PKK leader Cemil Bayik, known by the code name Cuma. Following his assignment in Türkiye, Topaloglu was found to be gathering information for the terrorist organization under the guise of journalism.
Additionally, MIT identified Savas, alongside Topaloglu, as involved in financial activities for the PKK, including supplying materials to the organization’s members in Syria through front companies.
Topaloglu and Savas, arrested in a joint operation by MIT and Istanbul Police, were charged with membership in a terrorist organization and subsequently imprisoned.
