MilSOFT, a Turkish company providing software-based solutions for the defense industry, successfully participated in a major NATO exercise focused on digital interoperability. The company’s tactical data link simulator (TDLSim) played a key role in the exercise, which was held at NATO’s Joint Force Training Centre in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

TDLSim, developed for secure information exchange among military systems through tactical data links, performed a series of activities in the field of tactical data links during the exercise.

As part of the “Coalition Interoperability Assurance and Validation” activities, NATO conducted an integration event comprising interoperability tests to ensure the compatibility of member nations’ systems. The goal of this activity was to demonstrate that systems joining the NATO network for joint operations could function according to NATO standards and be compatible with other NATO systems.

Systems that complete these tests are deemed capable of joining the NATO network for joint operations when required. In other words, this event serves as a certification process for TDL systems organized by NATO. TDLSim completed 146 tests in this activity, earning compatibility reports for various functions.

In the joint operation scenario, TDLSim took on roles and missions such as airborne early warning and control, fighter aircraft and missile operations. The performance of TDLSim impressed both Turkish and international participants. The network-enabled missile capability demonstrated during the exercise was highlighted by the scenario air coordinator to Turkish and foreign generals as a significant capability showcased at CWIX 2024.

During CWIX 2024, various tests were completed with systems from NATO, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, Greece, Romania, and other countries and organizations.

TDLSim is a simulation, testing, and training software developed for secure information exchange among military systems through tactical data links. It enhances the operational readiness of military aircraft, ships, unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems by simulating tactical data links essential for joint operations.

TDLSim can join a real tactical data network to perform the required tasks during exercises. For example, it can simulate a command and control system giving a missile launch order to an F-16/F-35 aircraft and guiding the missile to its target in both real and virtual environments. TDLSim is also used for training units such as command and control systems, aircraft, and missiles, and for tactical data link analysis.

TDLSim supports numerous tactical data link standards including NATO Link-11, Link-16, Link-22, JREAP, SIMPLE, and others. It allows for the virtualization of all elements and hardware of the Link-16 network, a type of tactical data link.

Export success

TDLSim software, developed by MilSOFT as a domestic and national product, is actively used by the Turkish Land Forces Command, Turkish Air Force Command, Aselsan, Tubitak Sage, Azerbaijan Air Force and the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Participation in the CWIX 2024 exercise held annually in June in Poland by NATO confirmed that all tests with NATO systems were completed, proving compatibility with NATO systems.
