Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) economic team and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek are set to meet on June 24, Monday.

The main agenda items for the 10:00 a.m. meeting are expected to be the minimum wage and pensions. CHP’s Yalcin Karatepe will advocate for a wage increase at least equal to the inflation rate starting in July.

One of the most significant steps in easing political tensions in Türkiye occurred in recent weeks during mutual discussions between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel.

During Erdogan’s visit to Ozel, it was decided that CHP’s economic team would meet with Simsek.

The eagerly anticipated meeting is set to take place on June 24. Simsek will meet with CHP’s shadow finance minister Yalcin Karatepe at 10:00 a.m. at the ministry.

The CHP delegation will also include two key economic advisors, Secretary General Selin Sayek Boke and Deputy Chairman Volkan Demir.

Tax reform package on agenda

Before the visit, the CHP delegation reviewed the topics to be discussed with Simsek. They prepared a report containing suggestions for the ongoing government work on the tax reform package.

The CHP advisors will also present issues they deem in need of urgent action to the Finance Minister.

Minimum wage, pensions to discuss

CHP’s Yalcin Karatepe will push for a wage increase at least equal to the inflation rate starting in July. Additionally, a proposal to increase pensions by adding a welfare share to the inflation rate will be on the table.

Other topics to be raised by the CHP advisors include increasing agricultural subsidies, TurkStat data and the Wealth Fund.
