Double earthquakes strike Türkiye’s Kahramanmaras
A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras, Türkiye, this morning at a depth of 6.26 kilometers (3.89 miles).
Pazarcik is one of the regions devastated by the earthquakes that hit on Feb. 6. While the tremor caused brief panic in the area, initial reports indicate no casualties or significant property damage.
Stronger 5 magnitude aftershock follows
Less than half an hour later, a second earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale hit the same area. This quake was recorded at a depth of 7 kilometers.
The Kandilli Observatory reported a slightly lower magnitude of 4.9. The tremor was felt in surrounding cities, including Gaziantep, Adana, and Osmaniye.
Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) issued a statement confirming that there are no immediate negative impacts from the earthquakes and that field assessments are ongoing.
“We extend our best wishes to those affected,” the statement read. The Kahramanmaras Governorship added, “No adverse reports have been received; field inspections are continuing.”
