Türkiye’s indigenous jet Hurjet achieves major milestone with 100th test flight
Türkiye’s defense industry has reached a significant milestone with the successful 100th test flight of Hurjet, the country’s first indigenous jet trainer and light attack aircraft, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS).
This achievement solidifies Hurjet’s place in Turkish aviation history. The project was initiated in 2018 to replace the Turkish Air Force’s aging T-38M and NF-5A/B 2000 aircraft.
Hurjet has been gaining attention for its performance, notably reaching a speed of 0.9 mach at an altitude of 30,000 feet during its 79th sortie on July 11.
The Turkish Air Force has initially ordered four Hurjets, with an option for 12 additional aircraft. According to Tusas’ delivery plan, four Hurjet Block 0 aircraft are expected by the end of 2025, with 12 Hurjet Block 1 aircraft to follow by the end of 2028.
Additionally, 12 Hurjet Block 1 jets have been ordered for the Turkish Stars, showcasing the aircraft’s versatility.
TUSAS’ plans to deliver 100 Hurjets to the Turkish Air Force by the mid-2030s, with an additional 300 aircraft intended for international customers.
