Türkiye’s defense industry eyes future powered by hydrogen technologies
Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) is ramping up efforts to develop cutting-edge hydrogen technologies for military applications. The goal is to create silent, emissions-free propulsion systems that generate minimal heat while offering superior performance.
By investing in hydrogen-powered systems, Türkiye aims to bolster its global competitiveness in the defense industry.
The SSB is coordinating efforts to acquire expertise in a range of technologies, from hydrogen storage to advancements in combustion and fuel cell systems. By investing in these technologies, the SSB aims to equip law enforcement agencies with modern tools that enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.
This technology is expected to be used in unmanned and intelligent systems, engine and power transmission systems, and strategic systems, from land, air, and sea vehicles to space platforms.
Future projects and collaborations on hydrogen technologies
The SSB recently concluded its 11th Research and Development (R&D) Panel, where it issued a comprehensive call for the development of hydrogen technologies for defense industry applications. The SSB is seeking proposals from local industrial organizations and universities to collaborate on projects that advance the use of hydrogen in military equipment. Applications for the call will be accepted until Sept. 13.
Strategic targets
With strategic goals such as the National Technology Move and the National Space Program, Türkiye plans to further increase its strength in the defense industry through hydrogen technologies. The know-how and infrastructure to be acquired through these projects are also expected to make a significant contribution to the development of domestic technologies.
The SSB is committed to strengthening the country’s position in the global defense market through the development of domestic hydrogen technologies. The projects initiated under this initiative will play a crucial role in advancing Türkiye’s defense industry.
