According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the nation’s population is expected to increase by 2.8 million from 2023 to 2030, reaching 88.2 million. Despite this growth, not all regions will experience an increase in population.

Which cities will experience population growth?

Some 59 provinces are expected to see a population increase, with significant contributions from:

  1. Istanbul: +473,533
  2. Antalya: +269,804
  3. Ankara: +258,523
  4. Bursa: +214,887
  5. Kocaeli: +214,364

Which cities will experience decline?

Around 22 provinces are projected to witness a decrease, with the most considerable declines anticipated in:

  1. Agri: -62,782
  2. Erzurum: -36,981
  3. Corum: -34,146
  4. Gumushane: -32,515
  5. Mus: -28,967

Zoom in: Istanbul is expected to lead the population growth, adding nearly half a million people by 2030. On the other hand, Agri faces the steepest population decline, with a projected decrease of over 62,000 residents.
