Türkiye will never allow terrorist groups to take advantage of the situation in Syria, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

In a phone call, Fidan emphasized the importance of Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity while discussing the latest developments in the country.

Fidan also highlighted the need for the international community to assist in rebuilding Syria’s neglected infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.

On Nov. 27, Syrian opposition forces launched a 10-day offensive, capturing key cities, including Damascus on Dec. 8. The swift advance, backed by defecting military units, resulted in the collapse of the Assad regime after 13 years of civil war.

Assad and his family fled to Moscow, where Russia granted them asylum.
