On 12 September 2024, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Director of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization Ibrahim Kalin met with their counterparts in a trilateral format in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent.

The Foreign Ministry announced the meeting in a post on its official X account.

The meetings discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation issues by the will of Türkiye’s President and Uzbekistan’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Besides regional issues, the meetings also discussed issues requiring joint struggle, such as terrorism and extremism, irregular migration and smuggling.

The participants developed and signed a roadmap for the institutionalization and systematic continuation of concrete cooperation between the two countries at the end of the meeting.

This roadmap includes concrete steps in the areas of political cooperation; parliamentary diplomacy; trade, economy, and investment; defense, security, and internal affairs; as well as cultural and humanitarian areas.

There will be ongoing efforts to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Türkiye and Uzbekistan.

Hakan Fidan’s statements

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements regarding the trilateral meetings held in Tashkent.

Fidan noted that Uzbekistan, under the vision and leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is rapidly advancing, as observed during their visit.

He highlighted that the meetings, conducted with the Interior Minister and the Head of the National Intelligence Organization, thoroughly addressed regional and security issues.

Fidan described the Roadmap signed as a significant step in institutionalizing the strategic cooperation between the two countries.

He expressed hope that the historical journey of Türkiye and Uzbekistan, as two key members of the Turkic States Organization, will culminate in comprehensive integration under this framework.

He concluded by wishing that the trilateral meeting in Tashkent brings fruitful outcomes for Türkiye and Uzbekistan.
