Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu Monday announced the launch of the “air campus” initiative, aiming to transform Türkiye into a global hub for amateur and sports aviation.

This project, spearheaded by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will create designated areas for manned and unmanned aerial vehicles to take off and land under pilot supervision, easing airport congestion and promoting the aviation sector’s growth.

Uraloglu emphasized that the air campus initiative will support the development of amateur aviation by providing alternatives to traditional airports and heliports, particularly for vertical takeoff and landing vehicles.

These campuses will simplify procedures for aviators, reduce the complexities of airport operations, and promote the growth of sports and amateur aviation across Türkiye.

The DGCA will manage applications for air campuses, with regulations ensuring safety and proper construction within a three-year timeframe.
