Türkiye to supply military ammunition to South Korea

Türkiye’s defense industry continues to expand its global reach as ASSAN Group announced plans to supply military ammunition to South Korea.
The development was confirmed by ASSAN Group General Manager Gurcan Okumus during an exclusive interview with TRT Haber at the IDEX 2025 defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

Strengthening production capabilities
Okumus emphasized that the company’s primary focus is enhancing serial production capabilities. “We are working on improving our infrastructure and establishing new production lines in various regions,” he said.
He highlighted Türkiye’s growing export portfolio, noting that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains the company’s largest export destination, with ongoing collaborations in Azerbaijan and a newly planned production facility in Nakhchivan.
Additionally, the company is increasing its presence in Africa and is planning to set up a production line in the UAE.

MK series aircraft ammunition agreement with South Korea
Okumus revealed that ASSAN Group is in the final stages of securing a contract with South Korea for the supply of MK series aircraft bombs.
“South Korea has emerged as a major global military exporter in recent years. They are selling to the world, and now we will be supplying them,” he stated, adding that the contract is expected to be signed soon.

Development of hybrid engine technology
Alongside its ammunition exports, ASSAN Group is investing in hybrid engine technology. “We are actively working on hybrid power train solutions for military systems using our own resources,” Okumus said.
The goal is to develop a hybrid power unit with approximately 1,000 horsepower, which will be showcased at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Türkiye.
Okumus also noted that the hybrid engine would be suitable for military platforms such as the T-155 Firtina howitzer and similar systems.
“This is a groundbreaking initiative, and we aim to complete operational testing within the year,” he added.
