Türkiye to make a statement at ICJ over Israel’s actions in Palestinian territories
Türkiye, along with 52 countries and three international bodies, is set to make a statement to ICJ over Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In an effort to clarify the illegality of Israeli actions within the occupied Palestinian areas, Türkiye, with 52 countries and 3 international bodies, is scheduled to make a statement to the International Court of Justice on Feb. 26.
Given the growing attention being paid to the conflict worldwide, Ankara’s message will center on Israeli policies and actions in the Palestinian territories. The principal court of the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, will convene to discuss the legal actions resulting from Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories that are deemed to be under international law.
Many organizations submitted written submissions to the ICJ, including South Africa, Jordan, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Qatar, Belize, Bangladesh, Palestine, the United States, Indonesia, Chile, the Arab League, Egypt, Algeria, Guatemala, Namibia, and Pakistan. This extensive foreign participation highlights the general interest in and apprehension about the circumstances in the Palestinian territory.
It is expected that Türkiye, a loud supporter of Palestinian rights on the global arena, would emphasize how important it is to preserve international law and defend Palestinian rights in the context of the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The impending hearing at the International Court of Justice represents a significant diplomatic maneuver by Türkiye, signaling its commitment to addressing what it perceives as unlawful actions within the occupied Palestinian territories.
