Türkiye will ensure security beyond its southern borders starting in 2025, with a focus on addressing terrorism threats originating from these regions, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Thursday.

Speaking at the Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) eighth Ordinary Provincial Congress in Balikesir, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to regional security and stability.

“Starting from 2025, we will ensure security beyond our southern borders, particularly regarding the issue of terrorism, and eliminate the threats emanating from those regions,” Erdogan said.

Türkiye’s humanitarian approach to regional crisis

Reflecting on Türkiye’s response to the crisis in Syria, President Erdogan stated that Türkiye upheld its “bond of brotherhood” and provided humanitarian assistance to those affected by the conflict.

“We passed the test of humanity with flying colors,” Erdogan noted, emphasizing Türkiye’s role in sheltering and supporting millions of displaced Syrians over the years.
