Türkiye to attend NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Türkiye at the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting on April 3–4, 2025, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The meeting will serve as the first collective consultation among the new U.S. administration and NATO Allies.
The agenda includes key security issues, transatlantic cooperation, and preparations for the NATO Summit in The Hague this June.
Collective defense and strategic priorities discussed by NATO-32
The opening session will be attended solely by NATO’s 32 Allies. Discussions will focus on
- Collective defense and burden-sharing
- Increasing defense spending
- Strengthening the defense industry infrastructure
- Russia-Ukraine war and the future of European security
- Preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in June
According to the Foreign Ministry sources, Foreign Minister Fidan is expected to underline Türkiye’s commitment to Euro-Atlantic security, emphasizing:
- Türkiye’s contributions with its strong military and advanced defense industry
- The need to maintain NATO’s central role in European security
- Türkiye’s critical role on NATO’s southeastern flank in shaping the region’s future

Indo-Pacific cooperation in focus with regional partners
The second session will include NATO’s Indo-Pacific partners—Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.
Discussions will address common security challenges and prospects for increased cooperation.
Minister Fidan is expected to highlight:
- The interconnectedness of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security
- The importance of enhancing partnerships with Indo-Pacific nations

NATO-Ukraine council meeting with European Union participation
The third session will convene under the NATO-Ukraine Council format, with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
Topics expected on the agenda include:
- Ukraine’s urgent needs
- Current status of the Russia-Ukraine conflict
- Efforts toward a sustainable ceasefire and lasting peace
- Roles European Allies can play in supporting Ukraine
Minister Fidan is expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
He is also expected to discuss Ankara’s continued support for ceasefire efforts and future peace initiatives, while emphasizing the importance of full participation of non-EU Allies like Türkiye in EU-led defense initiatives.
