Türkiye shines at 65th International Mathematical Olympiad
The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) concluded with notable success for Türkiye, as the team secured a remarkable 10th place among 108 countries.
Outstanding team performance
Under the leadership of Azer Kerimov and deputy leader Ahmet İleri, the Turkish team, consisting of six members, showcased exceptional talent and dedication. The team earned an impressive total score of 151 points, with the students achieving a diverse array of awards: two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals.
Baris Koyuncu and Mehmet Can Bastemir led the Turkish contingent with stellar performances, each securing a gold medal.
Koyuncu achieved a score of 33, ranking 13th with a relative score of 98.03%, while Bastemir followed closely with a score of 32, ranking 14th with a relative score of 97.86%.
Top performing countries
The United States secured the top position with a total score of 192 points, followed by China with 190 points, and South Korea with 168 points. Türkiye’s 10th place finish places them among the top ten countries, emphasizing their competitive edge in this prestigious global event.
Success in 64th IMO
This year’s achievements build on the solid foundation laid by Türkiye’s performance in the 64th IMO in 2023. Last year, the Turkish team also excelled, finishing in 8th place with a total score of 176 points. Under the same leadership of Azer Kerimov and deputy leader Selim Bahadir, the team comprised six members who brought home one gold medal, three silver medals, and two bronze medals.
