Türkiye seizes over 455 kilograms of narcotics at Istanbul Airport

Customs enforcement officers under Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade have seized 455.2 kilograms of narcotics in a major anti-smuggling operation at Istanbul Airport, the country’s primary international aviation hub.
According to an official statement released on the ministry’s social media platform, the seizure was made following an extensive analysis and targeting process by the Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate.
Narcotics hidden in cargo shipment bound for transit
The intercepted shipment originated from abroad and was designated for transit through Türkiye. After raising suspicion during routine checks, the shipment was subjected to a detailed inspection.

Specialized NARKOKIM teams within the customs enforcement unit were deployed to examine the suspicious cargo. Upon inspection, the teams identified and seized the illegal substances.
Immediately after the establishment of the Department of Combating Narcotic Crimes within the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement under the Ministry of Trade, NARKOKIM units consisting of specialized personnel working on a 24-hour basis were established within the Van, Kocaeli, Gurbulak, Istanbul, Mersin and Edirne Section of Intelligence Coordination for Smuggling (KIM) in order to establish a more effective and specialized combat network in provincial units.

The investigation into the seizure is currently being conducted by the Gaziosmanpasa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
