Türkiye reiterates support for ongoing normalization process with Armenia, rejects 1915 claims

Türkiye on Thursday reiterated its support for the normalization process with Armenia while firmly rejecting what it called politically motivated claims regarding the events of 1915.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said, “We categorically reject the statements on the events of 1915, made in violation of historical facts and international law.”
The ministry condemned the remarks as attempts to exploit past tragedies for political gain, saying such efforts are “totally null and void.”
“These attempts, which clearly aim to exploit the pains of the past for political motives, are incompatible with efforts toward dialogue and reconciliation,” the statement read.

Longstanding support for global peace
The ministry emphasized Türkiye’s longstanding support for global peace, dialogue, mutual understanding, and prosperity in the region. It also recalled that Ankara had previously opened its archives and proposed forming a Joint Historical Commission to conduct an impartial academic study of the events of 1915.
The statement concluded with a warning against encouraging “radical circles to draw animosity from history,” stressing that such rhetoric undermines reconciliation efforts between Türkiye and Armenia.
