Türkiye receives proposal for F-16s, discusses Eurofighter with UK
Ministry of National Defense announces receipt of F-16 proposal from the U.S., updates on Eurofighter discussions with the UK during Defense Minister’s visit, and reports significant counterterrorism progress
The National Defense Ministry announced during a press conference that a draft proposal and acceptance letter has been received from the U.S. regarding the procurement of 40 new F-16 Block-70s, as well as the modernization, ammunition, and equipment of the existing 79 aircraft.
Regarding the question of whether the Eurofighter issue was discussed during Defense Minister Yasar Guler’s visit to the U.K., the ministry said, “Our Minister visited the United Kingdom upon an official invitation. During this visit, exchanges of views were held on bilateral and regional defense and security issues. One of the agenda items during this visit was the Eurofighter issue. We expect a positive approach from Germany, one of the countries in the Eurofighter consortium. Technical discussions continue with representatives from the United Kingdom and the manufacturer.”
Furthermore, Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk, press and public relations advisor, stated that 25 terrorists had been killed in operations against terrorist organizations, including in northern Iraq and Syria, in the past week alone. He also mentioned that the total number of terrorists neutralized since Jan. 1, 2024, had reached 483, with 193 in northern Iraq and 290 in northern Syria.
Akturk added that the number of individuals caught attempting to illegally cross the borders since Jan. 1 had risen to 1,448, with 30,015 persons prevented from crossing the border altogether.
