Türkiye must act amid global shift, says President Erdogan
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed on Sunday that Türkiye cannot afford to remain passive as the global system undergoes its most significant transformation since the Cold War.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to dismantling what he called a “bloody and treacherous death plot” orchestrated by the PKK terrorist organization in northern Iraq’s Qandil region.
“We are determined to dismantle the terror structure in Qandil and eradicate the threat posed by those fueling these organizations,” Erdogan said.
He emphasized that Türkiye is not only fighting against terrorism but also those who incite it, vowing to establish a secure environment within and around Türkiye.
The PKK terrorist organization, which frequently operates out of northern Iraq to launch cross-border attacks into Türkiye, has waged a 40-year campaign of violence. The group is classified as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, and has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths, including women, children, and the elderly.
