Türkiye, Mexico sign agricultural development MoU
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) signed a memorandum of understanding in Mexico for the development of the agricultural sector.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico hosted the 4th High-Level Development Cooperation Network Meeting of MIKTA, which includes Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, and Australia, according to a statement from TIKA.
The Turkish delegation headed by Ugur Tanyeli, head of TIKA’s Foreign Relations and Partnerships Department, was represented at the meeting by Ilhan Kemal Tug, ambassador of Türkiye to Mexico City, and Fatih Abdi Çetin, coordinator of TIKA Mexico Office.
During the two-day meetings, representatives of the MIKTA development cooperation agencies discussed the 2030 Agenda, the implementation of sustainable development goals, and opportunities for international cooperation for member countries’ development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena said that Mexico is willing to mobilize financing and cooperation for Central America, address the structural causes of migration, and develop productive projects.
Following the end of the MIKTA meeting, TIKA and AMEXCID signed a memorandum of understanding for the “Sembrando Vida” program to strengthen the agricultural sector in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Cuba.
Praise for Türkiye
In her speech at the signing ceremony, AMEXCID Executive Director Gloria Sandoval Salas said, “Our sister country, Türkiye, has become an important actor with the development projects it has realized in the region through TIKA.”
Ugur Tanyeli, Head of TIKA’s Foreign Relations and Partnerships Department, said that the agreement will strengthen the relations between the parties and that the transformation of the partnership ties established between TIKA and AMEXCID into concrete regional development projects is an important step for both countries.
Referring to the importance of the agricultural development cooperation programs that TIKA will support within the scope of the Sembrando Vida program, Tanyeli noted that TIKA makes important contributions to achieving sustainable development goals.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mexico City Tug stated that TIKA has carried out important development projects in the region and the world, and AMEXCID has put forward a successful development model in Central America with Sembrando Vida.
