Türkiye and Malaysia signed 11 agreements to enhance cooperation in various sectors, during an official ceremony attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Expanding energy and disaster management cooperation

One of the key agreements includes cooperation in energy transition, signed by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Water Transformation Fadillah Yusof.

Another memorandum of understanding (MoU) on disaster and emergency management, along with a cooperation note between the diplomatic academies of both nations, was signed by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.

Scientific and defense collaborations

The Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council’s (TUBITAK) Marmara Research Center and the Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation formalized a cooperation agreement in maritime and polar research.

The document was signed by Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir and Malaysian Foreign Minister Hasan.

A key agreement in the defense sector was also reached, with an MoU on the procurement of defense products, signed by the head of Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industry (SSB) Haluk Gorgun and Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Strategic agreements in security and trade

Türkiye’s SSB and Malaysia’s National Security Council signed a note of cooperation in communication systems, with the document signed by Gorgun and Malaysian National Security Council Director-General Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin.

In addition, a cooperation agreement in smart city, traffic, and security system solutions was signed between SSB and Selangor Aviation and Technology Innovation Sdn Bhd, represented by Gorgun and Selangor State Government Chief Minister Amirudin Bin Shari.

Trade relations were also reinforced with an MoU between Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade and Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, focusing on consumer protection, market supervision, and regulatory cooperation. Turkish Minister of Trade Omer Bolat and Malaysian Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Armizan Bin Mohd Ali signed the agreement.

Maritime, media and news cooperation

Desan Shipyard and the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs signed a preliminary acceptance letter for the supply of multi-purpose mission ships, signed by Desan Shipyard Chairman Cenk Ismail Kaptanoglu and Malaysian Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Awang Alik Bin Jeman.

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission signed a letter of intent in audiovisual media services, with RTUK Chairman Ebubekir Sahin and MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Bin Fateh Din signing the agreement.

Finally, Anadolu Agency (AA) and the Malaysian National News Agency signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation in journalism and news services. The agreement was signed by AA Chairman and Director-General Serdar Karagoz and Malaysian National News Agency Executive Director Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
