Türkiye-Iraq development road: Path to economic growth and security

The Development Road Project, which will connect East and West through Türkiye and Iraq, was on the agenda of the Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nuh Yilmaz said that the Development Road Project represents hope for Iraq’s recovery from civil war and terrorism, offering not only investment opportunities for Türkiye but also a path to stability, stronger bilateral relations, and a shared strategic vision.

This project is the name of the adventure and hope of Iraq, which has been victimized by civil war and terrorism for a very long time, to stand up. There are alternatives, but this project is the most rational, the cheapest and the most feasible among them. There will be many investment opportunities for Türkiye, but this is not just a commercial issue. We support it and attach great importance to it because it is important in terms of combating terrorism, stability, relations between the two countries and developing a common strategic vision, and because it is important in terms of being a hope for countries in the region that have similar problems such as terrorism and civil war.

Ruling AK Party Konya MP Ziya Altunyaldiz said the project will play an important role in the fight against the PKK terrorist organization.

The solidarity between Türkiye and Iraq in the fight against the PKK will be crucial for ending terrorism, fostering regional stability, and maximizing mutual benefits through joint projects in labor, technology transfer, and logistics, Altunyaldiz added.

The PKK poses a great threat not only to Türkiye but also to Iraq and the region. The solidarity between the two countries in the fight against the PKK will make important contributions to the steps towards peace and development in our region by completely ending terrorism. The elimination of all terrorist elements will also contribute greatly to the stability that our region needs to overcome its political, economic and other problems, and at the same time, it will in a sense eliminate and eliminate the global appetite through these means. Türkiye, with its strong construction sector and engineering infrastructure, has the capacity to play a leading role in these projects. The involvement of Turkish companies in projects in Iraq will maximize mutual benefits between the two countries in terms of labor, technology transfer and logistics.

Ali Sahin, Gaziantep deputy of the ruling AK Party, pointed out that China and Pakistan have realized the $63 billion Economic Corridor Project and said, “This extraordinary project has been completed, right at the point where the Development Road Project will begin. Once integrated, it has the potential to increase the project’s impact by 4-5 times. Türkiye must find a way to merge these two projects and make them part of the larger initiative.”
