Türkiye Informatics Council comes together for first time in 20 years
Türkiye Informatics Council, which aims to create an awareness of digitalization and solidify Türkiye’s role in the digital era, convenes after a 20-year break
Türkiye Informatics Council gathers for the first time after a 20-year break.
The gathering aims to solidify Türkiye’s position in the global economy, aspiring to make the “century of the digital” a reality, in line with the worldwide shift toward digital transformation and data-centric value chains.
To achieve this aim, the council plans to work on national-level awareness efforts involving key stakeholders such as public institutions, the private sector, academia, and non-governmental organizations.
The earlier informatics councils, held in 2002 and 2004, have served as guiding principles for Türkiye’s endeavors to become an information society.
Scheduled to convene by the year’s end, the preparations are being spearheaded by working groups representing TOBB Software Council of Türkiye, TUBISAD Informatics Industry Association, Turkish Informatics Foundation, YASAD Software Manufacturers Association, and BGD Information Security Association, all operating under the Turkish Informatics Association.
‘Information becomes important strategic asset’
The Digital Transformation Office of the Turkish Presidency will oversee the coordination and organization of the Informatics Council.
Key topics to be explored during the council include “digital skills and agile workforce integration,” “enhancing presence in the global data economy,” “next-generation sustainable development,” and “digital sovereignty and resilience.”
The Informatics Council aims to present macro-level goals and policy recommendations for 2030 and beyond.
The working groups have planned two phases of workshops, with the initial three workshops in Ankara gathering over 200 stakeholders. Following this, three additional workshops are slated for Istanbul.
Subsequent workshops, to be conducted in May under the coordination of informatics-focused NGOs, will involve a more comprehensive array of stakeholders. Discussions will center on informatics-oriented policies and solutions for the year 2030.
The council will publish a report detailing digital transformation and next-generation technologies, featuring a roadmap that encapsulates the expectations of all involved parties.
