Türkiye inducts strategic ALP 300-G Early Warning Radar
ALP 300-G, Türkiye’s longest-range radar developed by Aselsan, has been officially inducted into the Turkish Armed Forces, noted for its advanced features and strategic importance in battlefield and border security
President of Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) Haluk Gorgun has announced that the newly inducted Portable Early Warning Radar System (ALP 300-G) into the Turkish Armed Forces inventory is a highly strategic product.
A ceremony was held at Aselsan’s Golbasi facilities to mark the first delivery of the early warning radar systems, the country’s longest-range radar, developed domestically by Aselsan for the Turkish Armed Forces.
In his speech at the ceremony, Gorgun emphasized the significance of radar systems for battlefield and border security, noting that they have been working in the field of radar for nearly 30 years.
Gorgun highlighted that they have been working on new technologies to develop radars in various fields, such as aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, border surveillance, naval platforms, air defense systems, missile systems, search and surveillance, fire control, tracking, and weapon detection.
“The delivered portable early warning radar systems are very strategic products. It brings us great satisfaction that this strategic product is produced domestically and has been added to the inventory,” he said.
Görgun noted that Aselsan’s entire family of early warning radar systems is named ALP, with the delivered radar designated as ALP 300-G. He highlighted that this radar system can handle nearly 500 digital communications and can process the content of 81 DVDs per second.
He also mentioned that approximately 40 different radars have been exported to nearly 10 different countries.
“There are various radars in use worldwide, from Italy, France, and the United States. The ALP 300-G we delivered today surpasses all of these in terms of resolution, range and accuracy.
This radar has an active electronic scanning feature that operates while stationary.
It has over 4,000 transmit-receive modules, and if one module fails, it can continue operating. Unlike rotating radars, this one can receive reflections without waiting for a full rotation. It also sends a verification signal to ensure accuracy,” Görgun explained.
He noted that more than 435,000 lines of code were used in the radar’s development, adding: “We have nearly 20 patents related to this radar. It can be set up in 30 minutes and provides uninterrupted communication via a radio link.” Görgun emphasized that 436 companies contributed to the radar project, stating: “The radar’s target set is extensive and resistant to electronic warfare. One of the advantages is our technological dominance, allowing us to provide rapid technological support when needed. We can respond quickly to the development of next-generation members.”
‘With ALP 300-G, we have made significant progress’
Aselsan General Manager Ahmet Akyol noted that Aselsan has achieved numerous significant successes in the field of radar in recent years.
“We have gained the ability to design and produce in all frequency bands. In 2023, with the induction of Cenk and Akrep, we completed our naval platform radar family. With ALP 300-G and the low-altitude radar to be inducted this year, we have made significant progress in our early warning and air defense radar family. Our AESA Nose Radar, Murad, has elevated us to the top tier in the radar league, making us one of the few countries capable of developing airborne platform radars,” he said.
Akyol underscored that Aselsan can now meet all of Türkiye’s fundamental radar needs domestically and is preparing for future technologies. He mentioned ongoing R&D efforts with TOBB University and Gebze Technical University to develop a Quantum radar.
Akyol highlighted that the GAN chips and all subcomponents used in AESA radars are designed and produced by Aselsan, with the gallium nitride transistors used in these chips being domestically produced at Aselsan Bilkent MikroNano, a company established in collaboration with Bilkent University.
He added that Aselsan aims to become one of the world’s top 30 defense industry companies by 2030, with a vision to develop the best products in the field, create game-changing technologies and grow through export-oriented strategies.
Defense Minister Yasar Guler highlights strategic importance
At the delivery ceremony of the Portable Early Warning Radar Systems, held at Aselsan’s Gölbası facilities, Defense Minister Yasar Güler emphasized the strategic importance of the newly developed radar system for the Turkish Armed Forces.
“This new generation radar system, with the longest range in Türkiye, early warning capabilities, and rapid deployment and recovery features, boasts the most advanced attributes in its class,” Guler stated.
“We are witnessing the first delivery of the portable early warning radar system, which will significantly enhance the strength of our heroic army. I wish this advanced technological product to be beneficial for our country and the Turkish Armed Forces,” he continued.
Highlighting the necessity of producing defense systems with national capabilities, Guler mentioned: “The critical projects like the portable early warning radar system contribute to our independence by reducing reliance on imported systems and increasing our military and strategic effectiveness internationally.”
Güler detailed the radar system’s capabilities, saying: “The ALP 300-G radar, developed by Aselsan has superior features in terms of resolution, range, and accuracy compared to Italian, French, and American-made systems. It can operate in a fixed position and continue functioning even if a module fails, providing continuous and reliable performance.”
“The radar system, with its ability to process vast amounts of data and withstand electronic warfare, will enable us to detect and track various threats in advance and respond effectively over long ranges, significantly boosting our national defense capabilities,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Guler stated: “With its high operational skills, this radar will provide our army with a significant advantage by enabling our personnel to make informed decisions swiftly. We will continue to equip our heroic army with the most modern systems required by present and future needs to ensure the security of our country and citizens.”
