Türkiye extends condolences following deadly Myanmar earthquakes

Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and damage caused by the devastating earthquakes Friday in Myanmar on Friday, which measured 7.7 and 6.4 in magnitude.

In a written statement, the ministry offered its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and extended sympathy to the peoples of Myanmar and Thailand.

“We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives as well as to the peoples of Myanmar and Thailand, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement read.

According to initial reports, the earthquakes have claimed the lives of at least 150 people, with more than 730 others injured.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock, struck northwest of Sagaing in central Myanmar on Friday. The quakes flattened buildings, destroyed bridges, and cracked roads across large parts of the country. Additionally, a 30-story skyscraper under construction in Bangkok, Thailand, collapsed.
