Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus urges Israel to engage constructively in peace talks with Hamas, emphasizing Türkiye’s commitment to addressing humanitarian crises, during the MIKTA meeting in Mexico City

Türkiye expresses hope for Israel to adopt a more cooperative stance in peace talks with the Palestinian resistance group (Hamas) following the Palestinian group’s acceptance of an Egyptian-Qatari cease-fire proposal for Gaza, said Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus during the 10th parliament speakers meeting of MIKTA in Mexico City.

MIKTA is a cooperative body established with the partnership of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye and Australia.

He emphasized the global significance of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, highlighting the devastating toll on civilian lives, particularly women and children.

Kurtulmus also mentioned Türkiye’s intention to participate in South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice regarding alleged genocide in Gaza.

Despite international silence on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he noted widespread public demonstrations worldwide, emphasizing the role of university students and intellectuals in advocating for a fairer world order.

Kurtulmus stressed the importance of MIKTA member countries’ parliament speakers collaborating to address global issues and promote world peace.

Additionally, he addressed the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, underscoring its detrimental impact on the global system and the risk of escalation into a broader confrontation between Russia and the West.

Despite efforts to facilitate dialogue, a lasting and equitable peace agreement between the two countries remains elusive, according to Kurtulmus.
