Türkiye enhances border security with advanced systems, infrastructures
Türkiye strengthens border security with a modular concrete wall, patrol roads and advanced security systems covering 1,160 kilometers of eastern and southeastern borders
Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening border security is evident in the 1,160 kilometers (720.7 miles) of a modular concrete wall designed to reinforce critical sections of its eastern and southeastern borders.
This barrier is accompanied by a 1,234-kilometer-long patrol road equipped with advanced security systems for additional support.
Data from the Ministry of Interior shows that progress includes the completion of 715 kilometers of lighting systems along the border and the integration of 228 kilometers of camera and sensor systems.
Furthermore, 211 observation towers and 130 communication towers were constructed as part of the “Increasing Observation Capacity on Türkiye’s Western and Eastern Borders Project,” bringing the number of electro-optical towers to 341 by the end of 2023.
In addition, 497 wireless sensor systems were installed for the use of border troops.
Effective use of systems: Elevator tower
Over 100 elevator towers have been built along the 33-kilometer Turkish-Iraqi border, which is particularly important in the fight against irregular migration, smuggling and terrorism, increasing surveillance efficiency.
A comprehensive project involving stone-reinforced barriers, patrol roads and high-security panel fencing along this borderline is underway and is scheduled for completion in 2024.
Going beyond borders
Beyond the eastern borders, security infrastructure was upgraded along Türkiye’s western borders.
A contract was signed for 21 additional electro-optical towers in Kirklareli, and initiatives were launched to reinforce the borders with Bulgaria and Greece with patrol roads, physical barriers and technological security systems.
A benchmark for other countries
Türkiye’s border security systems, which include over 60,000 personnel, have become a benchmark for other countries.
Countries such as Qatar, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Tajikistan, Poland, Malaysia, Senegal, Senegal, Kyrgyzstan and Jordan have chosen to implement Türkiye’s border security strategies on their territory, demonstrating Ankara’s leadership in this field.
