President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday during an iftar (fast-breaking dinner) program that the Eid al-Fitr holiday will be extended to nine days this year.

Erdogan stated, “Our public employees will be granted administrative leave on April 2, 3, and 4. This will allow our nation to enjoy a total of 9 days of vacation for Eid.”

In his speech, Erdogan shared the good news and continued, “As you know, next week, all our schools will begin their second interim vacation. Monday and Tuesday, the mid-term break days, coincide with the second and third days of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. We want families to spend quality time with their children and celebrate Eid in peace and joy. To facilitate this, we have included the three days following Eid in the scope of administrative leave for public employees.”

Our public employees will be on administrative leave Wednesday, April 2, Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4. This means our nation will have a total of nine days off. I sincerely hope Eid al-Fitr will help strengthen our unity, solidarity, and brotherhood as a nation,” he added.

Millions of Muslims worldwide will celebrate Eid al-Fitr from Sunday, March 30, to April 1, marking the end of Ramadan. The holiday brings Muslims together in large congregations for special prayers, celebrating the conclusion of a month of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth.

Eid al-Fitr, often referred to as the festival of breaking the fast, is a time for Muslims to unite in celebration, gratitude, and community.
