Türkiye condemns Israel’s deadly airstrikes on Lebanon amid rising tensions
Türkiye condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Lebanon, which on Monday resulted in the deaths of hundreds and injuries to over 1,000 people.
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated, “Israel’s attacks on Lebanon mark a new phase in its efforts to drag the entire region into chaos.” The ministry criticized nations that support Israel, accusing them of enabling Prime Minister Netanyahu to pursue his political interests at the cost of human lives.
The ministry called on the U.N. Security Council and the international community to take immediate action to address the situation.
According to Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad, at least 356 people have been killed and 1,246 injured in the intensive airstrikes targeting multiple areas in Lebanon since Monday morning.
Tensions escalated following a deadly airstrike on Friday that claimed the lives of at least 45 individuals, including women and children, in a Beirut suburb. Hezbollah confirmed that at least 16 of its members, including senior leaders Ibrahim Aqil and Ahmed Wahbi, were among those killed in the strikes.
The ongoing conflict has intensified since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, which has resulted in over 41,400 fatalities, primarily among women and children, following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7.
