In yesterday’s airstrike on the Consulate premises at Iran’s embassy in Damascus, a total of seven individuals were killed. This included two high-ranking officials of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy, Gen. Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, along with five other military advisers to the guard corps. Among the casualties were also six Syrians, bringing the overall death toll to 13.

The Iranian mission to the UN denounced the Israeli airstrike as a “cowardly terrorist act” and a “blatant violation of the UN Charter,” calling for condemnation and action from the UN Security Council.

While Iran openly attributed the attack to Israel, the Tel Aviv administration remained silent.

Iran announced its intention to retaliate against the attack and held the United States accountable as well.

This assault occurs within the context of Israel’s prolonged offensive on the Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous Palestinian casualties. Concerns mount over the potential escalation of conflict, with fears that it could evolve into a regional war.
