Türkiye arrests 34 foreign ISIS terrorists in anti-terror operation
Security forces confiscate unauthorized firearms, a substantial amount of foreign currency and various digital materials
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced a significant achievement in the nation’s ongoing efforts against terrorism, revealing that Turkish security forces successfully apprehended 34 foreign individuals linked to the Daesh/ISIS terrorist group.
Notably, among the detained individuals were some with Interpol red notices, underscoring the international dimension of this anti-terrorism operation.
The arrests transpired during a meticulously executed Cage-35 anti-terror operation that unfolded simultaneously across multiple provinces, including Istanbul, Kocaeli, Yalova, Kayseri, Bursa, Duzce and Yozgat.
Yerlikaya emphasized that these individuals stand accused of engaging in activities associated with the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization, as well as affiliations with other terror groups operating in conflict zones.
Aside from the successful detentions, the anti-terror operations yielded additional significant outcomes.
Security forces confiscated unauthorized firearms, a substantial amount of foreign currency and various digital materials, shedding light on the extent of the networks involved.
These findings further highlight the thoroughness and effectiveness of the operations carried out by the Turkish security forces.
The impetus for this comprehensive anti-terror operation stemmed from a tragic incident last Sunday, where two gunmen opened fire on worshippers at the Santa Maria Church in Istanbul’s Sariyer district.
Regrettably, the attack claimed the life of 52-year-old Tuncer Cihan. The Daesh/ISIS terrorist group promptly claimed responsibility for this heinous act of violence.
The successful operations, therefore, not only mark a crucial step in dismantling terrorist networks but also serve as a robust response to the recent attack on Santa Maria Church.
The Turkish authorities continue to demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding national security and global peace through concerted efforts against terrorism.
