Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) announced on Friday that electricity prices will rise by 25% due to increasing energy production costs, effective from April 5.

In a written statement, EPDK explained that retail electricity prices will rise due to increased electricity production and distribution costs. The new rates are as follows: a 25% increase for residential users, a 15% increase for public and private services, a 10% rise for industrial users, and a 12.4% increase for agricultural activities.

As a result of the increase, a residential subscriber consuming 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity will now pay ₺259.04 ($6.74).

Residential natural gas will continue to cost ₺5.631 ($149) per 1,000 cubic meters.

However, BOTAS also announced an increase in wholesale gas prices, with industrial consumers facing a 20% rise and electricity generation plants experiencing a 24.2% hike.
