Türkiye and Iraq sign agreement for voluntary return of Iraqi citizens
Ankara and Baghdad signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday aimed at facilitating the voluntary return of Iraqi citizens residing in Türkiye, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry.
The agreement was signed by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Iraq’s Minister of Migration and Displacement Evan Faiq Jabro. It seeks to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in managing migration in a more sustainable and secure manner.
The ministry stated, “As part of the memorandum, which aims for a more sustainable and secure approach to migration management, cooperation will focus on effectively preventing irregular and illegal migration.”
Under the agreement, Iraqi nationals living in Türkiye will have the opportunity to return to their home country voluntarily. “Within the scope of the memorandum, cooperation will be undertaken to combat irregular migration,” Yerlikaya emphasized on social media platform X.
