Türkiye, Iran strengthen ties as Erdogan meets with Iranian leader in Ankara
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye and Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi met at the Presidential Complex on Wednesday for a joint press conference, focusing on improving ties and addressing regional issues.
Expressing solidarity, President Erdoğan condemned the recent terrorist attack in Kerman on January 3rd, stating, “I want to express that Türkiye stands by Iran in the fight against terrorism.”
Both leaders discussed collaborative efforts against groups like PKK/PYD/YPG and PJAK, which pose security threats to both nations and the region. President Erdoğan emphasized, “(With Iran) We emphasized the importance of strengthening our collaboration against PKK/PYD/YPG and PJAK, which target the security of our countries and the region.”
Turning their attention to the Gaza conflict, the leaders stressed the need to avoid actions that could worsen regional security. President Erdoğan expressed concern about Israel’s attacks on Gaza, emphasizing, “(With Reisi) We discussed the need for an immediate end to Israel’s inhumane attacks on Gaza and the urgency of taking steps towards establishing a fair and lasting peace.”
