Türkiye’s agricultural exports are expected to reach $35 billion by the end of 2024, according to Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli. The minister made the announcement during a visit to Karaman, where he discussed plans to enhance agricultural production and export strategies.

Yumakli highlighted the government’s focus on elevating Türkiye’s agricultural export figures, stating, “Our main goal is to take our country’s agricultural product exports to even higher levels. Based on current data, we estimate that agricultural production exports will approach $35 billion by the end of this year.”

Strategic planning and sustainable agriculture

During his speech, Yumakli emphasized that achieving sustainable, efficient, and high-quality production is key to ensuring Türkiye’s food security. He also pointed out the importance of agricultural planning and highlighted several initiatives aimed at bolstering Türkiye‘s agricultural capabilities.

“We are traveling across Türkiye to implement projects related to the agricultural and forestry sectors, in line with our ‘Century of Türkiye’ goals. The most crucial element is ensuring our producers can maintain sustainable and efficient production while securing the nation’s food supply,” Yumakli noted.

Impact of global challenges on agriculture

The minister also addressed the challenges facing the agricultural sector, particularly those caused by climate change and global conditions.

“Climate change and other global developments, especially the preservation of natural resources like water, are becoming increasingly critical both in Türkiye and worldwide. We are taking these factors into account in our planning,” Yumakli said.
