The continued presence of Turkish troops underscores KFOR’s commitment to ensuring stability and security in the area, particularly along the sensitive border region between Kosovo and Serbia. These patrols play a crucial role in deterring potential incidents and maintaining peace in the region.

KFOR troops were deployed on June 12, 1999, following a decision by the U.N. Security Council. 

Türkiye has the second-largest contingent in KFOR, with a deployment of at least 780 soldiers.

In 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia and received recognition from numerous countries, including Türkiye. However, Belgrade has consistently refused to acknowledge Kosovo’s independence, maintaining that it remains an integral part of Serbia.
